Aims and Leaning Outcomes

This tutorial provides an introduction to identity management. Attendees will get a deep understanding of the concepts of identity and the problems related to managing identities to support security in online applications. The tutorial will present the most prominent methods and models for identity management, will understand identity management can be integrated with security systems and applications, will appreciate their limitations and will have a good overview of research challenges in this area.

More specifically, the learning objectives are to understand:

  1. Semantics of identity and related concepts.
  2. The role of identity management in applications security
  3. Existing models of identity management, both in commercial applications and in research proposal.
  4. The role of usability of identity management
  5. Limitations and weaknesses of identity management systems, and challenges for making such systems more flexible, reliable, user friendly and robust.
